he Grade 5 alloy is closely controlled for aluminium (5.5-6.75%) and vanadium (3.5-4.5%) and the oxygen level is limited to less than 0.20% (to prevent brittleness). Such precise compositional control enables excellent performance in load bearing medical implants.
Superior Biocompatibility for Medical Applications
In medical applications, materials must be able to blend effortlessly with the human physiology. The titanium sheets are particularly compatible with biological tissues because of the very inert oxide surface layer that is immediately reformed after injury.
The modulus of titanium is around 110 GPa, which is half the modulus of steel. Stainless steel has a modulus eight times that of bone. This biomechanical similarity to bone greatly lowers the effects of stress shielding which may contribute to osteoporosis around implants. The decreased stiffness permits the fractures to mend with appropriate callus formation so that radiographic measurement of the healing progress becomes possible.
This compatibility is beneficial for clinical surgical equipment, orthopaedic plates, spinal fusion devices and prosthetic components. Our sheets have been treated to prevent the formation of alpha case. Alpha case is the brittle surface layer rich in oxygen that can impact the safety of an implant.
Exceptional Strength-to-Weight Performance
Titanium possesses the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all known metals, making it indispensable for weight-critical applications. A 5 mm titanium sheet in Grade 5 configuration delivers tensile strength exceeding 860 MPa while weighing 40% less than equivalent steel sheets.
This advantage is used by aerospace manufacturers in aircraft fuselages, wing structures, tail assemblies and engine exhaust systems. The material exhibits structural integrity during high temperature fluctuations and cyclic loading. At the military level this combination of low weight and fatigue resistance is used for fasteners, missile components, and airframe structures.
In the fabrication of sports equipment, this property enables the manufacture of bike frames, ski poles and reinforcements for the skateboard deck. The combination of titanium and carbon fibre composites yields higher impact resistance while keeping the parts light and so retaining agility.
Advanced Corrosion Resistance
The naturally occurring passive titanium dioxide coating that forms on exposed surfaces provides excellent corrosion resistance in chloride-rich conditions, including prolonged exposure to human fluids, seawater and industrial chemicals.
This property is important for long term implantable medical devices such as pacemaker housings, dental implants and joint replacement components . Surgical instrument trays, bed frames, wheelchair chassis and other hospital equipment retain their appearance and functionality after decades of sanitisation cycles.
Titanium is resistant to acid and alkaline solutions and is well-suited for petrochemical processing equipment. Our sheets are used to produce heat exchangers, reactor vessels and valve components that last longer than typical alloy alternatives.
Precision Manufacturing and Quality Assurance
All products are tested under rigorous quality control procedures in accordance with international aerospace and medical device standards. Our multi-stage inspection method includes chemical composition verification by optical emission spectrometry to ensure that the alloy element concentrations fall within the specified window.
Ultrasonic testing following AMS 2631 and ASTM E2375 standards is used to discover subsurface defects, laminations and high density inclusions before export. Mechanical testing is used to verify tensile properties and ductility using routine bend tests, often with bend radii of 4T to 5T, even with the natural spring-back features of titanium.
Microstructural assessment is necessary for optimal alpha beta phase distribution in Ti6Al4V alloys. Any alpha case formation is removed manually or chemically milled to avoid brittle failure modes. Hydrogen levels are maintained below 0.015% to preclude the potential of delayed hydrogen embrittlement in important structural applications.

FAQ
Q: Why is titanium more expensive than steel options?
A: Titanium extraction and processing is a sophisticated and energy consuming process, including reduction of titanium tetrachloride by the Kroll process. It has a very high melting point , it reacts with oxygen at high temperatures , and it must be machined differently . All of these add to the cost of producing it . However, lifecycle cost analysis frequently favours titanium because of the longer service life, less maintenance and no need for coatings.
Q: Can you get a good weld on titanium sheets?
A: Yes. Titanium is very weldable if properly shielded with inert gas to prevent contamination. TIG and plasma arc welding methods provide excellent quality junctions with strength close to that of the base metal. We recommend that an argon purge gas be used on both sides during welding to minimise contamination by the atmosphere which causes brittleness.Q: How does titanium compare to stainless steel for medical implants?
A: Titanium offers superior biocompatibility with virtually no allergic response compared to nickel-containing stainless steels. Its modulus of elasticity more closely matches bone, reducing stress shielding effects. While Grade 12.9 steel provides higher absolute tensile strength, titanium's strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance make it preferable for permanent implants.
Q: What surface treatments are available for titanium sheets?
A: Common treatments include anodizing for color coding and enhanced corrosion resistance, sandblasting for improved surface roughness promoting bone integration, and chemical milling for alpha case removal. Passivation treatments optimize the oxide layer for maximum biocompatibility.
